The aims of the section are threefold: service, self-development and social.
Service means that we are active in the community, helping out with civic events such as Anzac Day services and Arbor Day, and that we often lend a helping hand to the younger Scout sections and the Girl Guides through being adult leaders or helping run the jamborees and events. Some of the Rover Crews have in the past helped out at events such as motor racing at Pukekohe, the Armageddon pop culture expos, the Targa Rally, and International Festival of the Arts - it is not all planting trees and putting up tents!
Self Development means simply trying new things and developing new skills; anything from adventure sports to wine tasting, as decided by the individual rovers. If there is anything you ever wanted to try Rovers can help you do it.
Social means that no matter what we do, we aim to make friends and have a good time. It would be fair to say that there is never a dull moment in Rovers! Rover Scouts enjoy an unsurpassed variety of activities, both in their individual Rover Crews, and with hundreds of other Rovers around New Zealand and the world!
Joining a Rover Crew could be one of the most important steps in your life. It can open doors to new friendships, fun, adventure and some unforgettable experiences while at the same time developing your leadership and organisational skills. The friends you make in Rovers will be with you for life!
Rovers from all around the country attend and in recent years we have had sizeable Australian contingents and other international Rovers attending.
The event is hosted by a Rover Crew or Region who must bid for the right to hold the moot. The Crews from the Lower North Island Region made a successful bid at Easter 2007 for the 2008 moot, with a theme of Midnight Moot. You can see our bid video here.
You dont need to be a rover to come to Midnight Moot, check out our eligibility rules here!
